07/25/2005: "National Bound"

Hey! I won an award. How cool is that? big grin GETTING REAL (January 2005 anthology with Vicki Lewis Thompson and Julie Elizabeth Leto) has been named CataRomance Reviewers Choice Award for Signature Select. Woohoo!

Tomorrow morning I head out for the National RWA conference in Reno. Just a reminder that there's a Literacy Signing (all proceeds go to Literacy) in the Reno Hilton ballroom on July 27 from 5:30 to 8:30. If you are in the area, I'd love for you to stop by my table and introduce yourself. It's always very cool to meet readers. I'll give you a bookmark and a piece of candy. big grin

I'm already tired just thinking about National. Don't get me wrong. I always sit in on a couple of workshops that I find truly inspiring. This is my third year of presenting a workshop myself and I no longer get nauseous at the thought, so that's a bonus. I have writer friends that I may email, but I only get to see them once a year at conference, so I'm really looking forward to re-connecting with them. I love seeing my editor and she always plans something cool before the conference starts. Last year we went horseback riding. This year we're kayaking on the Truckee River which should be a blast. Those are all the positives. On the down side, it's five days of being "on." Most days, I spend the majority of my time in running shorts, a tee-shirt, and a pair of Chacos and a lot of that time is spent alone, just me and my computer. The only time I'll be wearing running shorts the rest of this week is when I haul my butt out of bed at 5 a.m. to run before the day starts. confused Not that I'll be dressing like the glamour queen -I'm about one step shy of being fashion challenged, but I actually have to pretend to be an adult and dress like a professional. Scarey. And I figured out many conferences ago that I can't attend the luncheons. Let me give you a glimpse of Hell -- 2,000 people, mostly women, all in one room with high ceilings which bounce back what sounds like a massive twittering. HTG, it was like being in some freaky update to Hitchcock's The Birds. I don't like crowds anyway and that just sends me over the edge. I know--can you say neurosis?

I'm not taking my laptop with me so I'll be incommunicado until Sunday. Have a great week and I'll be sure to take lots of pictures to share on the site when I get back.

One more thing before I go. You've got to see Wedding Crashers. OMG, it was too funny. Love the sexy, lazy way Owen Wilson talks.
