09/22/2005: "Happy Birthday to Me"
Well, sitting down to write a book set in a historical time period is a little more involved than yours truly anticipated. I think it's especially challenging cause I've got those anal Virgo tendencies. But it's interesting and I'm enjoying it.
Today's my birthday and while I don't really have any hang-ups about it, it's probably just as well not to discuss numbers. Half the time, I can't remember how old I am without really stopping to think about it. I'm not sure if that's a denial thing or that it's just not that important and I really don't care. Probably a little bit of both. I'd planned on maybe getting my hair done this afternoon, but our secretary at work is out with a sick child so I'll answer the phones at work instead and then drive car pool to soccer after work--which is all okay. I'll go eat lunch with my daughter at her school and I've already had a lovely day. I've got my family and my home and the usual chaos of our lives. I haven't lost my home to a hurricane or its aftermath. I'm not having to evacuate and leave most of my stuff behind and not know whether I'll come back to it or come back to nothing. I'm feeling very blessed and sending comforting thoughts to all those people still recovering from Katrina and now fleeing Rita's wrath.

Thanks! The Girl and her dad had a cake made where they scanned in a photo of me in front of my 4th birthday cake. It was precious. The highlight of my day. (And tasted good, too. Carrot cake. My fave.)

"Some men admit they avoid confrontation (about breaking up) because they’re afraid we’ll cry. Of course we’ll cry; we cry at Hallmark commercials. What they don’t understand is that we’re not crying because of them, we’re crying because now we have to get naked in front of someone else.” -Cindy Chupack, TV writer
