Writers and Readers
There is something very inspiring about spending time with people of similar interest and experience. Between deadlines, National conference, my mother's health, and life in general, it had been a long time since I'd attended a Georgia Romance Writer's meeting. I presented the program yesterday. I told the group I always left more inspired and with more knowledge than when I came.
I think there's something very empowering about groups, whether it's a professional association of writers or a scrapbooking club, or an exercise group. It's the shared experience, the encouragement, the consolation. Sure, not everyone gets along. And that's life. I still think the benefits outweigh the cons.
I spent yesterday in the company of people who love to write and who love to read. When I got home, my family was out for the evening. I ignored the kitchen that needed to be cleaned up (actually, I'm saving it for The Girl who was supposed to do it earlier--don't want to deprive her. ), ignoed the laundry waiting to be done and the stack of paperwork on my desk and plopped on the couch and read for five hours without interruption. It was lovely.

Workshop, the Week-end and Chicken Pox
Today I'm finishing up my notes and reviewing my presentation for a workshop I'm presenting at my RWA chapter, GRW, tomorrow. I'm covering conflict and while I think it's really intersting, I hope no one falls asleep and lands face first in their pasta plate. Ack. It doesn't make me nervous to speak in front of a group, but I'm always concerned that I have content that means everyone leaves with some new insight and aren't bored to death in the interim.
Of course, this means I'll miss The Girl's soccer game and her first performance of the season (she's part of a professional children's choir). Of course, the girl may be missing all of this as well. One of her car pool buddies for soccer came down with the chicken pox last week, depsite having been vaccinated. Yesterday I picked up her other buddy and dropped them off at practice. The other girl's mom picked up and brought home. I got a call bright and early this morning. The little bud she was with yesterday now has the chicken pox. Better yet, my husband, has never had the chicken pox. If I have both of them down for the count with the chicken pox...I may just have to find a really tall bridge....

Hello
I haven't disappeared off of the face of the earth--although I've sort of felt that way. I returned home Labor Day week-end. I'm so happy to report that my mother is doing fabulous. Thanks for all the healing thoughts and prayers. And since I've been home, it's been pretty hectic--alas, none of it terribly interesting. Tonight it was total comfort food for dinner--meatloaf and mashed potatoes.
However, on the writing front...I'm so excited to see my first Blaze out this month. For everyone out there that loved Temptations, I think you'll love the Blazes as well. I'm about to start a project that I'm so excited about. It's a time travel. My very modern heroine is at a traveling exhibit, Sex Through the Ages, when she finds herself transported back to 18th century Scotland. I'm REALLY looking forward to writing this.

"Some men admit they avoid confrontation (about breaking up) because they’re afraid we’ll cry. Of course we’ll cry; we cry at Hallmark commercials. What they don’t understand is that we’re not crying because of them, we’re crying because now we have to get naked in front of someone else.” -Cindy Chupack, TV writer
